This beautiful shawl isn’t difficult to make but is amazing to wear this fall or winter. So grab your yarn and hook and let’s get started.

Materials

  • I used for this project 250 grams nr. 3 wool mix of 50% wool and 50% acrylic. You can use any yarn of your choice. Just pick a hook size one size bigger than recommended on the yarn label
  • 5 mm or H/8 hook
  • a pair of scissors
  • a tapestry needle

Notes

  • This pattern is written in US terms.
  • The ch3 at the beginning of each row counts as a dc.
  • The shawl is 70″ wide and about 15″ high.

Terms used/abbreviations

  • st         stitch
  • ch        chain
  • ch1sp   chain 1 space
  • dc        double crochet
  • dc2tog double crochet 2 together

Special stitches

Border stitch: If you start the row with a border stitch than you work 2 dc, ch1, dc all in the ch1sp. If you end the row with a border stitch than you work dc, ch1, 2 dc all in the ch1sp.

Pattern

Row 1: Ch7, make a border stitch in the 6th ch from the hook. Dc in the last ch.

Row 2: ch3 and turn your work. Dc in the first dc, to increase and make a border stitch in the ch1sp. Dc in the 5th chain of the beginning ch5 of the previous row.

Row 3: ch3 and turn your work. Work a border stitch in the ch1sp. 2 dc in the dc after the border stitch (make sure you don’t work your increase in the last dc from the border stitch. You need the dc after the border stitch). Dc in the 3rd ch from the previous row.

Row 4: ch3, turn work. Dc in the next dc, 2 dc in the last dc before the border stitch. Border stitch in the ch1sp. Dc in the 3rd ch from the previous row.

Row 5: ch3, turn work. Work a border stitch in the ch1sp. 2 dc in the dc after the border stitch Dc in every stitch across and in the 3rd ch from the previous row.

Repeat rows 4 and 5 until your work measures about 30”.

Now we no longer increase but we crochet straight for about 10”. So no longer 2 dc in the stitch before or after the border stitch but just 1 dc in every dc.

We now starting to decrease for another 30”. You can do this by dc2tog the 2 stitches before or after the border stitch. The last row you are left with a border stitch and 1 dc.

Bind off and weave in your ends. Wrap your shawl around your shoulders and get a breath of fresh air.
