Ayla Hat

Hello everyone. I had a ball of yarn left over from my Ayla sweater and I thought I could make a matching nice warm hat with it. So tadaa here it is. I use exactly the same cluster stitch so it is also very easy and quick to make The hat can be easily adjusted so it fits everyone.

Notes
- This pattern is written in US terms.
Pattern
First we make the band. Make a slip knot on your hook. Ch. 9
Row 1: sc in the second st from the hook and in every st across
Row 2: ch 1, turn your work, sc blo in every stitch across
Row 3-71 : repeat row 2. Or repeat until your work fits perfectly around your head. Make sure you have 8 st each row.
Now we connect the beginning with the end of the band. Ch 1, sc both ends together.

Now we are going to work in rounds around the side of the band, so turn the band to its side and flip the right side out.
Round 1: ch 1, cluster stitch in the first stitch. Then eyeball where you want to place your clusters so they are evenly spread and not too many or too little, I put about ¾ of an inch or 1,5 cm in between. I’ve made 26 clusters for my size, but you can make as many as you need to cover your band. The clusters become a bit wider than the band and that is exactly what we want. Close the round with a sl st in the first sc of the round.
Round 2: ch 1, turn your work. Cluster stitch in the first sc (where you put in your sl st), skip the next 2 dc and cluster stitch in the sc. Cluster stitch in every sc around. Close the round with a sl st in the first sc of the round.
Repeat round 2 until your work measures about 10 inches or 25 cm.
Bind off, leave a long enough tail (about 10 inches) to close the top. Turn your hat inside out.

Closing the top is a bit difficult to explain, therefore here is a drawing of the top of the hat to make it easier to understand (hopefully 😉).
Thread a tapestry needle with your tail and insert the needle under both loops of the stitch, create a star by picking up stitches (1-7) around the hat. Pull the yarn until you tightly closed the top.
Weave the yarn through the yarn a few more times. Fasten off and weave in your ends!
Turn your hat the right side out and your all done!
