Because the previous tutorial about the jasmine stitch in the round was such a success and I received questions about how to make the project larger, here is the large version of the stitch in the round. If you make it bigger it becomes a hexagon shape, but I actually like that. If you know how to keep the shape round please let us know in the comments so we can all learn from it. The result can be used on both sides. With a different yarn it gives a completely different result, so here too you can vary endlessly. Pick the hook size recommended by the yarn and you are good to go.

Pattern

Start with a magic ring (or make a ch 4 and close with a sl st in the first ch to form a ring) ch 1. Round 1: We start with a 1-puff stitch. Pull up the loop so it is 2 times the height of your hook or stretch it to the size you want your puff stitch to be. Always pull up your loops the same height throughout the whole pattern. Yarn over, insert your hook in the magic ring, yarn over, pull up a loop, repeat 3 times so you have 7 loops on the hook.

Yarn over, hold the yarn with the other hand to create a loop (see image 1), and pull through all 7 loops on the hook.

Image 1: Hold the loop

Insert hook in the loop you held between your fingers (see image 2), yarn over and pull through this loop and the loop on your hook. Ch 1 to close your 1-puff stitch.

Image 2: Insert in the loop

Next we make a 2-puff stitch. Start into the space you created on top of the previous puff stitch (see image 3).

Image 3: Insert 2-puff stitch

Yarn over, insert your hook in the top of the 1-puff, yarn over, pull up a loop, repeat 3 times so you have 7 loops on the hook. Don’t finish your stitch, but yarn over and insert your hook in the magic ring, pull up a loop. Repeat until you have 13 loops in total on your hook (7 from the first puff and 6 from the second one). Yarn over, hold the yarn with the other hand to create a loop and pull through all 13 loops on the hook. Insert hook in the loop you held between your fingers, yarn over and pull through this loop and the loop on your hook. Ch 1 to close your 2-puff stitch. Repeat 3 times so you have 4 2-puff stitches in the magic ring.

To finish the round we make a 3-puff stitch. Start like the 2-puff stitch until you have 13 loops on your hook, then don’t finish the stitch. We make another puff, because we need a 3-puff stitch. Yarn over again and insert in the top of the first puff of the round, pull up a loop. Repeat until you have a total of 19 loops on your hook. Yarn over, hold the yarn with the other hand to create a loop and pull through all 19 loops on the hook. Insert hook in the loop you held between your fingers, yarn over and pull through this loop and the loop on your hook. Ch 1 to close your 3-puff stitch. Close the magic ring.

From now on we start every round with a 1-puff stitch and end every round with a 1-puff stitch.

Round 2: Start with a 1-puff stitch. Pull up the loop. Yarn over, insert your hook in the top of the previous stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, repeat 3 times so you have 7 loops on the hook.

Yarn over, hold the yarn with the other hand to create a loop and pull through all 7 loops on the hook. Insert hook in the loop you held between your fingers, yarn over and pull through this loop and the loop on your hook. Ch 1 to close your 1-puff stitch.

Next we make 5 groups of 3-puff and 2-puff stitches. Start into the space you created on top of the previous puff stitch. Yarn over, insert your hook in the top of the 1-puff, yarn over, pull up a loop, repeat 3 times so you have 7 loops on the hook. Don’t finish your stitch, but yarn over and insert your hook in the hole where the 1-puff stitch starts (see image 4), pull up a loop.

Image 4: Insert 3-puff stitch round 2

Repeat until you have 13 loops in total on your hook (7 from the first puff and 6 from the second one) don’t finish the stitch. We make another puff, because we need a 3-puff stitch. Yarn over again and insert in the hole of the star next to the one you just worked in (see image 5), pull up a loop.

Image 5: Insert 3-puff stitch round 2

Repeat until you have a total of 19 loops on your hook. Yarn over, hold the yarn with the other hand to create a loop and pull through all 19 loops on the hook. Insert hook in the loop you held between your fingers, yarn over and pull through this loop and the loop on your hook. Ch 1 to close your 3-puff stitch. Next we make a 2-puff stitch. Start into the space you created on top of the previous 3-puff stitch. Yarn over, insert your hook in the top of the 3-puff, yarn over, pull up a loop, repeat 3 times so you have 7 loops on the hook. Don’t finish your stitch, but yarn over and insert your hook in the middle of the star (see image 6), pull up a loop.

Image 6: Insert 2-puff stitch round 2

Repeat until you have 13 loops in total on your hook. Yarn over, hold the yarn with the other hand to create a loop and pull through all 13 loops on the hook. Insert hook in the loop you held between your fingers, yarn over and pull through this loop and the loop on your hook. Ch 1 to close your 2-puff stitch. Repeat 4 times so you have 5 3-puff and 2-puff stitches in total.

To end round 2 we make another 3-puff stitch the same as you did for the whole round and a 1-puff stitch. Pull up the loop. Yarn over, insert your hook in the top of the previous stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, repeat 3 times so you have 7 loops on the hook. Insert the hook in the first stitch of the round and pull through this stitch and the loops on your hook, ch 1. Insert in the first stitch again and make a sl st to close the round.

Repeat round 2 until your work is the size you want. Every round you make 1 3-puff stitch extra in between the 2-puff stitches. So for round 3 it is as follows.

Round 3: 1-puff stitch, * 3-puff stitch, 3-puff stitch, 2-puff stitch*  Repeat *-* for the whole round. The last stitch is not a 2-puff stitch but always a 1-puff stitch to end the round.

Round 4: 1-puff stitch, * 3-puff stitch, 3-puff stitch, 3-puff stitch, 2-puff stitch*  Repeat *-* for the whole round. Make a 1-puff stitch to end the round.

Round 5: 1-puff stitch, * 3-puff stitch, 3-puff stitch, 3-puff stitch, 3-puff stitch, 2-puff stitch*  Repeat *-* for the whole round. Make a 1-puff stitch to end the round.

Round 6: 1-puff stitch, * 3-puff stitch, 3-puff stitch, 3-puff stitch, 3-puff stitch, 3-puff stitch, 2-puff stitch*  Repeat *-* for the whole round. Make a 1-puff stitch to end the round.

Repeat making 1 3-puff stitch extra inbetween the 2-puff stitches until your work is the size you want.

Bind off and weave in your ends and your project is done!
