Pattern

Main part

Row 1: Start with a foundation sc of 88 stitches. If you want to learn how to make a foundation sc, click this link: https://youtu.be/w_6zbOxJwwU If you don’t like starting like this then you can also start with 89 chains and work a row of hdc on top, staring in the 2nd ch from the hook. You can make it as big or as small as you want, just make more or less stitches to start with. My work is 50 cm. or 20″ long.

Row 2: ch 1, turn your work. Sc in every stitch across.

Repeat row 2 until your work is 25 cm. or 10″ or until it is the width you want.

When you have the desired width you ch 1 and turn your work a quarter, so you have the small side at the top. We work a row of sc across the top working 1 sc in every row. Eyeball your work and adjust if needed so your row is nice and flat. You can adjust by making more or less sc in the row.

Cut your yarn, bind off and weave in your yarn.

You can block the rectangle so it is nice and straight.

Mosaic crochet front part

We start the mosaic front part now. You need to follow the chart below.

Row 1: in color A. Start with a sc foundation chain in multiples of 6 for the width that you want. Mine is 25 cm. or 10″. If you want to learn how to make a single crochet foundation chain then you can click on this link
If you are new to crochet or just don’t like to start with a foundation chain, then you can make a normal chain and work a row of sc on top and start row 2 from there. Cut your yarn and bind off a the end of the row.

Row 2: start at the beginning of the row again in color B. Don’t turn your work. Ch 1, sc blo in every stitch across. Cut your yarn and bind off. You cut and bind off every row and start the new row in a new color on the beginning of the row.

Row 3: color A, ch 1, *sc blo in the first 3 stitches, drop down dc in the next, sc blo in the next, drop down dc in the next*. Repeat until the end of the row.

Row 4: color B, ch 1, sc blo in every stitch across.

Row 5: color A, ch 1, *drop down dc in the first st, sc blo in the next 3 stitches, drop down dc in the next, sc blo in the next*. Repeat between the * until the end.

Row 6: color B, ch 1, sc blo in every stitch across.

Row 7: color A, ch 1, *sc blo in the first stitch, drop down dc in the next, sc blo in the next 3 stitches, drop down dc in the next*. Repeat between the * until the end.

Row 8: color C, ch 1, sc blo in every stitch across.

Row 9: color A, ch 1, *sc blo in the first 3 stitches, drop down dc in the next stitch, sc blo in the next, drop down dc in the next*. Repeat between the * until the end.

Row 10: color C, ch 1, sc blo in every stitch across.

Row 11: color A, ch 1, *drop down dc in the first st, sc blo in the next 3 stitches, drop down dc in the next, sc blo in the next*. Repeat between the * until the end.

Row 12: color C, ch 1, sc blo in every stitch across.

Row 13: color A, ch 1, *sc blo in the first stitch, drop down dc in the next, sc blo in the next 3 stitches, drop down dc in the next*. Repeat between the * until the end.

Repeat rows 2-13 until you reached the height you want. Mine is 12 cm. or a little less than 5″.

Weave in all of your ends.

Assembling

Fold the big rectangle along the shortest side at 16 cm. or 6.2″. Place the mosaic part on top. Attach them together with stitch markers. Now decide where you want your divider in the middle. I made the left side 10 cm. or 4″ wide, the right side is 15 cm. or 6″.

First close the dividing part by sewing the parts together. You can watch the tutorial on YouTube, where I show you how to do this without a visible seam.

The next part is closing the sides. You can attach your yarn in the left top corner. Ch 1, and work sc along the side until you reach the part where your organizer pockets starts. We close this part by making sc through all 3 layers, so the mosaic layer and the 2 from the main part.

At the end of the side, ch 1 and turn your work a quarter. Work sc along the bottom, eyeball your work so it lays nice and flat. At the end ch 1 and turn another quarter so you can work the other side of the organizer.

Sc through all 3 layers until the end and then just sc in every stitch across until you reached the top. Ch 1 and turn a quarter. Sc along the top.

Cut your yarn, bind off and weave in all the ends.
