Today I teach you how to make a simple wrap skirt. The skirt is easy adjustable to any size. If you can do a single crochet, a half double crochet and a chain then you can certainly do this skirt.

Special stitches

Extended single crochet

Insert in the stitch, yarn over pull up a loop. You have 2 loops on your hook, yarn over pull through 1 loop on your hook. You still have 2 loops on your hook, yarn over and pull through those 2 loops to finish your stitch.

Extended single crochet 2 together

Insert in the stitch, yarn over pull up a loop. You have 2 loops on your hook, yarn over pull through 1 loop on your hook. You still have 2 loops on your hook, leave those 2 loops on your hook and insert in the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through 1 loop. Yarn over and pull through the 3 loops to finish your stitch.

Crab stitch/ reversed single crochet

You work this stitch in opposite direction. Don’t turn your work but insert your hook in the last stitch you made and make a sc. Insert in the stitch to the right and make a sc.
If you are lefthanded then you do the opposite, so insert in the stitch tot the left and sc.

Notes

  • This pattern is written in US terms.
  • A chain 1 at the beginning of each row doesn’t count as a stitch.

Pattern

We start the pattern with some measurements. Measure around the waist. Write this number down at number 1. Then measure around the widest part of the hips, write this down at number 2. (See picture)

Multiply both numbers by 1.4. to determine the width of the skirt. The result you get by number 1 plus 1 meter or 40 inches is the width of your waistband.

Waistband Make a hdc foundation chain for the width you wrote down at the last step. If you want to learn how you can make a hdc foundation chain, click on this link https://2loopz.com/?s=half+double+crochet+foundation+chain

If you are a beginning crocheter or you don’t like starting with this foundation, you can also start with a normal chain and work up a row of hdc on top.

When you have the length you need, bind off and weave in the end.

Skirt

Measure 50 cm. or 20” from each side attach a stitch marker in those 2 stitches. If you want to be precise you can count the stitches on each side and make sure they are an even amount.

  1. Attach your yarn in a stitch with a stitch marker, ch 1, hdc in every stitch across until the other stitch marker. Make a hdc in the stitch with the stitch marker as well. You can take out the stitch markers now.
  2. Ch 1, turn your work. Ext sc to the end of the row.
  3. Repeat row 2.
  4. Ch 1, turn your work. Make 2 ext sc in the first stitch to increase. Ext sc in every stitch across and in the last stitch you make 2 ext sc again.

Repeat rows 3 and 4 until you reached the width you wrote down at number 2. Then no longer increase but repeat only row 3 until your work is 1” or 2.5 cm. shorter than you like the skirt to be in the end.

Put your skirt on every couple of rows so you can adjust as you go. Make more or less increase rows if needed.

If your skirt is 1” or 2.5 cm. shorter than the length you like.

You ch 1, turn your work and make a ext sc2tog in the first 2 stitches, make a ext sc in every stitch across until you have 2 stitches left. Make a ext sc2tog in the last 2 stitches.

Repeat this decrease row 1 more time. Bind off and weave in your end.

Finishing rows

Attach your yarn in the top corner of the skirt. You can choose which corner you want to start.

Ch 1, sc around the skirt part (not around the band). Place 1 sc in every row for the sides (or more or less if your work ripples, your work needs to lay flat, just eyeball and adjust if needed) at the bottom 1 sc in every stitch.

At the other corner you ch 1 and do not turn your work. Work crab stitches in every stitch around the skirt to make a nice border.

When you are at the other end, bind off and weave in your end.

Your all done! Put it on and steel the show 😉
