Make 2 of these shell granny squares.
Half granny
Start with a magic ring (or start with a ch4 and close with a sl st)
Row 1: ch 3(=dc), make in the ring dc, 3 hdc, dc, tc, dc, 3 hdc, 2 dc. Close the ring by pulling the tail end.
Row 2: ch 3 (=dc) and turn your work. Dc in the first stitch, 5 hdc, 3 dc in the tc, 5 hdc, 2 dc in last dc.
Row 3: Ch 3 (=dc), turn your work. Dc in the first stitch, 7 hdc, 3dc in the middle dc, 7 hdc, 2dc in last stitch.
Repeat row 3 but then you have 9 hdc, 11 hdc, 13 hdc and so on in between the dc.
Make 2 of these half grannies.
Now it is time to sl st the 4 pieces together. Lay your pieces on the table as follows:

Sl st the pieces together. The right sides are facing down. Fold your work so the both granny squares are aligned right sides facing eachother. Sl st the last side of the half granny to the last side of the shell granny. Flip the bag right side out.
Make sc around the bottom to close it. bind off and weave in your ends.
Attach your yarn in one of the top stitches of your bag. Every dc gets 2 hdc but adjust when necessary. Make 5 rounds of hdc. Start every round with a ch2 (=hdc) and close every round with a asl st.
Flap
For the flap we make a half shell granny square.
Row 1: ch4 (=dc+ch1), 5 dc, ch 1 in the first ch you’ve made.
Row 2: turn your work, sl st in the first ch1sp. Sc in this ch1sp, 7 dc in the next ch1sp, sc in the next ch1sp. Repeat until the end of your row.
Row 3: ch4 (=dc+ch1), turn your work. Dc in the first stitch, ch5, skip the shell, in the sc a V-stitch, ch3, V-stitch, ch 5, sc in the last stitch.
Row 4: turn your work, sl st in the first ch1sp.
Row 5:
Row 6:
Make a row of sc across the top of the granny.
Place the flap right side down on the bag. Sl st the flap to the top of the bag. Bind off and weave in your ends.
Attach your button to the top corner of the whole shell granny square.

Strap
Make sc around the 4 rings. Bind off and sl st 2 rings together so you have 2×2 rings.
Make a single crochet foundation chain as long as you want your strap to be.
Ch1 and turn your work. Work a row of sc in every stitch across. Repeat this until your work is 1 inch wide.
Fold your strap lengthwise in half and sl st the sides together. Attach on each side one of the set rings with sl st to the strap. Sew the other ring to the side of the bag.
Fringes

Finish off and weave in your ends.
You can make fringes at the bottom of your bag, where you made the sc to close the bottom. The sc makes it easy to connect the fringes. I think the fringes makes the bag extra fun.
Cut your yarn in pieces of 5 inches. You need about 90 of them. Pick 3 strands at the same time. Fold them in half forming a loop at one end. Insert your hook from bottom to top in the first sc at the bottom, grab the loop and slide through. Pull the loose ends through the loop and pull tight. Attach three strand of yarn in every sc. Trim the ends of your fringe so that they are even.
And we’re done. Put your things in the bag and let’s have a party!
