Pattern

We start the pattern with some measurements.

Measure loosely around the widest part of your chest, divide this number by 2 and write this number down at 1. Then measure from your armpit to where you want your top to fall. Write this down at 2. Measure from the top of your shoulder to where you want your top to fall. Write this number down at 3.

We now have all the measurements to make your top. Let’s begin.

Front panel

Start with a double crochet foundation chain as long as the width you wrote down at 1. Make sure your chain is in multiples of 2. If you are new to crochet or you don’t like to start with a double crochet foundation chain then you can also start with a normal chain and work a row of double crochet on top.

Row 1: ch 3, turn your work. This ch 3 counts as a double crochet. Make a dc2tog in the second and third stitch, ch1, dc2tog in the next 2 stitches, ch 1, dc2tog in the next 2 stitches, ch 1 and so on. End with a dc in the last stitch.

Row 2: ch3, turn your work, dc2tog in the first 2 chain spaces. Ch 1, dc2tog in the same space and in the next chain space. Ch 1, dc2tog in the same space and in the next chain space. Repeat to the end of the row and make a dc in the last stitch (the 3rd chain from the beginning ch 3 of the previous row).

Repeat row 2 until you have the length you wrote down at number 2, this is your front panel.

Make another panel the same way, but now make 3 rows extra. So the back panel is 3 rows higher than the front panel. Don’t bind off.

Neckline front panel

Put a stitch marker in the middle of the row. We make the V-neck in 2 pieces.

Row 1: Ch 3, turn your work and work the pattern until the stitch before the stitch marker. Normally you would end the row with a dc in the last stitch in this case you end the row with a dc2tog. For the V-neck we need to decrease so we don’t make a dc at the end.

Row 2: ch 1 (not 3), turn your work. Make dc2tog until the end of the row. End with a dc in the last stitch.

Row 3: ch 3, turn your work. Work the pattern until the end, make the last dc2tog in the last 2 chain spaces (the ch 1 at the beginning of the previous row doesn’t count as a chain space).

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until your work is 1 inch shorter than the height you wrote down at number 3.

Make 3 rows of the pattern to finish the shoulder part. These 3 rows are straight so we don’t decrease anymore, just work the way you did for the whole panel. Bind off and leave a long tail to make the shoulder seams.

Attach your yarn on the other side of the panel and repeat the steps for the neckline front panel on this side. Bind off and leave a long tail to sew the shoulder parts together.

Neckline back panel

For the back panel repeat the same steps as the neckline front panel. This panel is 3 rows higher than the front panel so we don’t make the 3 straight rows at the end.

Lay the front panel on top of the back panel, sc both side parts together. Make 2 sc in every row. Leave an opening for your arms of about 5″. You can also sew the parts together if you prefer this method. Repeat this step on the other side and at the shoulder seams. At the shoulder seamd you make 1 stitch in every stitch instead of 2.

Border

Make 1 round of sc around the sleeves and the neckline to make a nice finish.
Bind off and weave in all of your ends.

Your top is ready to wear!
