  • 2.5 mm. C hook
  • a pair of scissors
  • a tapestry needle

  • ch        chain
  • sl st     slip stitch
  • sc        single crochet
  • yo        yarn over
  • yu        yarn under

Notes

  • This pattern is written in US terms.
  • The bag is crocheted from bottom to top.
  • You don’t finish your rounds, you just keep going in a spiral.
  • For this project you work in the back loops only and you make a single crochet with first a yarn over and finish the stitch with a yarn under. Watch the YouTube video part 1 for a more detailed explanation.
  • When you change color you do this in the middle of the sc before. When you have 2 loops of color A on your hook, do the last yarn under in color B and draw through all of the loops on the hook to finish the sc in the new color.
  • Print the two charts so you can keep them handy when crocheting.
  • The bag is about 10″ high and the bottom is about 7″ wide.

Pattern

Start with the white and black yarn together and make a magic ring. Ch 1 just in black. Work over the color you don’t use every time you make a stitch. Follow the chart you see below. Watch the YouTube video part 1 for all the ins and outs.

Chart for the bottom of the bag.

When you finished the bottom, make one round of sc in black in the back loop only. From now on no more increasing just 1 sc in every sc.

For the sides of the bag follow the chart below. Watch the YouTube video part 2 for all the ins and outs for the rest of the bag.

The last step is to finish the top of the bag. We make the crab stitch all in black to finish our project. Cut the white yarn, bind off and weave in the end. The crab stitch is a reversed sc so instead of making your stitches in the same direction you’ve made all of your stitches, we go backwards. Insert your hook in the stitch before the first stitch and make a sc. Then make a sc in the stitch before this stitch and so on. Repeat this all the way around and make a sl st in the first stitch. Cut the yarn, bind off and weave in.

Twisted cord

Cut 6 strands of black yarn of 82 inches. Twist them together until they begin to resist, fold them in half and they will continue to twist. Tie a knot in both ends. Thread the cord up and down through the holes in the bag. Cut the ends to the same length.

Strap

It’s time to make the strap. Ch 8, make a sc in the 2nd loop from the hook and in every stitch across. You now have 7 stitches. We use the thermal stitch from the honeycomb pillow cover to make it really strong. Ch 7 and follow the instructions of the honeycomb pattern on my blog https://2loopz.com/honeycomb-pillow-cover/.
Work the thermal stitch until the strap is 20 to 30 inches long. Attach one end of the strap to the inside of the back of the bag. See the picture below for the exact placement.

The other end of the strap we attach at the bottom of our bag. Turn your back so the back is facing you. Go straight down from the point where you attached your strap to the black rounds at the bottom. Attach the other side of the strap here. See picture below.

And finally you’ve made it to the end. Your bag is ready to use. Have fun with it!!
