Olivia Shawl

This beautiful round shawl is a beginner friendly pattern, not difficult to make at all but oh so beautiful to wear during the cold spring evenings. It’s made with double crochets and front and back post double crochets. Grab your hook and yarn and hook up with me.

Materials
- I used for this project 5 balls of Lion Brand Wool-Ease in the color grey heather http://www.lionbrand.com/yarn/wool-ease-yarn.html
- 8 mm crochet hook
- a pair of scissors
- a tapestry needle
Notes
This pattern is written in US terms.
The ch3 at the beginning of each row counts as a dc.
Terms used/abbreviations
st stitch
ch chain
dc double crochet (you insert your hook in between the stitches instead of in the stitch. See photo below)
fpdc front post double crochet
bpdc back post double crochet

Special stitches
Fpdc: Yarn over and insert your hook from front to back between the posts of the 1st and 2nd dc of the row below, and then from back to front again between the posts of the 2nd and 3rd dc. Finish like a normal dc.
Bpdc: Yarn over and insert your hook from back to front between the posts of the 1st and 2nd dc in the row below, and then from front to back again between the posts of the 2nd and 3rd dc. Finish like a normal dc.
Pattern
Start with a magic ring or ch6 and close with a slst in the first ch.
Row 1: Ch3 (this counts as your first dc), make 13 dc in the magic ring. (14) Row 2: ch3 and turn your work. Fpdc around the 2nd dc, dc in between the 2nd and 3rd dc (see photo below for the exact placement), fpdc around the 3rd dc. *Fpdc around the next dc, dc in between, fpdc around the next dc*. Repeat between the * until the end of the row. You should have 6 groups like this. End your row with a dc in the 3rd ch from the previous row. (20)
Row 3: ch3 and turn your work. Bpdc around the 2nd dc (this should be on top of the fpdc of the previous row), dc in between the 2nd and the 3rd stitch and dc in between the 3rd and the 4th stitch, bpdc around the next stitch. *bpdc around the next stitch, dc in between the stitches, dc in between the next stitches, bpdc around the next stitch*. Repeat between the * until the end of the row. You should have 6 groups again. In every group you increase one stitch, so 6 in total. Dc in the 3rd ch from the previous row. (26)
Row 4: ch3, turn work. Fpdc around the 2nd stitch (on top of your bpdc), dc in between the dc stitches, so you go from 2 to 3 dc, fpdc around the next stitch. Repeat this until the end of the row. Dc in the 3rd ch from the previous row. (32)
From now on we start every row with a ch3. Make a fpdc on top of every bpdc and vice versa. In between these stitches you make dc in between the stitches, so you increase by 1 in every group. At the end of every row you’ve made 6 increases. End each row with a dc in the 3rd ch from the previous row.
Repeat this until your shawl has the desired length. Bind off and weave in your ends.
Wrap it around and enjoy your evening of relaxation!
