Pattern

We start the pattern with some measurements.

Measure loosely around the neck and write this number down at 1. Then measure from your neck to your armpit. Write this number down at 2. Measure from the neck to where you want your top to fall. Also write this number down.

We now have all the measurements to make your top. Let’s begin.

Neck line

Start with a single crochet foundation chain as long as the width you wrote down at 1. Make sure your chain is in multiples of 3. I made 90 stitches for my size. If you are new to crochet or you don’t like to start with a single crochet foundation chain then you can also start with a normal chain and work a row of single crochet on top. Close the chain with a sl st in the first chain, make sure the chain isn’t twisted. Close the gap at the beginning of the single crochet foundation chain with the tail end and weave in this end.

Round 1: ch 1, sc in the first 2 stitches, 2 sc in the next, sc in the next 2 stitches, 2 sc in the next. Repeat until the end, close with a sl st in the first sc.

Round 2: ch 1, sc in every stitch around. Sl st in the first sc to close the round.

Round 3: ch 1, sc in the first 3 stitches, 2 sc in the next, sc in the next 3 stitches, 2 sc in the next. Repeat until the end, close with a sl st in the first sc.

Round 4: ch 1, sc in every stitch around. Sl st in the first sc to close the round.

Don’t bind off.

Upper half top

Fold your work in half, so you have on one side the working yarn, put a stitch marker there and on the other side put in a stitch marker as well. Fold your work one more time in half, so you have a quarter of a circle. Put a stitch marker in both layers. When you fold it open you must have 4 stitch markers evenly spread around the circle. We make the upper half in 2 pieces.

Row 1: Ch 4 (this counts as your first dc and a ch 1), turn your work. Skip a stitch and make a dc in the next, ch 1, skip a stitch, dc in the next. Repeat until the stitch before the stitch marker.

Row 2: ch 3, turn your work. Make a dc in the first stitch. Make a dc2tog in the same stitch and in the next dc, ch 1, dc2tog in the same dc and in the next dc, ch 1, dc2tog in the same dc and in the next dc. We skip the ch1 spaces. Repeat until the end of the row. End with a dc2tog in the 3rd chain from the beginning ch 3 of the previous row to increase.

Row 3: ch 3, turn your work. Dc in the same stitch, ch 1, dc in the ch1sp, ch 1, dc in the next ch1sp, ch 1, dc in the next ch1sp. Repeat until the end of the row. End with 2 dc in the 3rd chain from the previous row.

Row 4: ch 3 turn your work, dc in the next dc, ch 1. Dc2tog in the same dc and in the next dc, ch 1, dc2tog in the same dc and in the next dc, ch 1. Repeat until the end of the row and end with a dc2tog in the 3rd chain from the beginning ch 3 of the previous row to increase.

Repeat rows 3 and 4 until the work measures the length you wrote down at number 2 (the length from the neck tot the armpit).

Bind off and weave in the end.

Attach your yarn on the other side of the neckline and repeat the steps for the upper half on the back until the work is the same length. Don’t bind off.

Bottom half top

Fold your work so it lays on top of each other. Pick up your loop and sl st in the 3rd chain f the beginning chain 3 on the other side to connect the sides together.

Round 1: Ch 4, dc in the next ch1sp, ch 1, dc in the next ch1sp, ch 1. Repeat to the last ch1sp of this side, ch 1, yarn over insert between the last 2 dc, yarn over, pull up a loop, insert in the 3rd chain of the beginning ch 3 on the other side, yarn over and pull through the stitch and through the first loop on your hook. Then finish like a normal dc. Ch 1, dc in the next ch1sp, ch 1 and repeat until the end of this side. Close with a sl st in the 3rd ch of the beginning ch 4 to close the round.

Turn your work.

Round 2: Pull up a loop a bit longer than a normal double crochet. Yarn over the hook with this loop and hold it tight with your finger. Insert your hook in the first dc, you need to reach back a little bit. Yarn over and pull through, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on the hook. Don’t let go of the loop yet, yarn over again, insert the hook in the next dc, yarn over pull up a loop, yarn over pull through two loops, yarn over pull through all three loops on your hook. Then, ch 1, dc2tog in the same and in the next dc, ch 1, repeat until the end of the round. Close with a sl st in the first dc2tog to close the round.

Turn your work.

Round 3: ch 4, dc in the next ch1sp, ch 1, dc in the next ch1sp, ch 1. Repeat until the end of the round and close with a sl st in the 3rd chain of the beginning chain 4.

Repeat rounds 2 and 3 until you reached the length you wrote down at number 3.

Border

Make 3 rounds of sc around the bottom to make a nice finish.
Bind off and weave in all of your ends.

Your top is ready to wear!
