This is a fun and quick project that only takes a few hours and gives a beautiful result. You can make this project with the cotton yarn you like and you can even use some of your scrap yarns.

Materials

  • 10 grams of nr. 2/fingering cotton yarn I used Scheepjes Catona 10 grams in 5 different colors. Every ball is enough for two triangles.
  • 3 mm or D hook
  • a pair of scissors
  • a tapestry needle

Pattern

Start with a magic ring or a ch 6 closed with a sl st.

Round 1: ch 3, 4 dc, ch 5, 5 dc, ch 5, 5 dc, ch 5, sl st in the 3rd ch from the beginning ch 3.

Round 2: ch 3, dc in the next stitch, ch 1, skip a stitch, dc in the next 2 stitches, 3 dc in the ch5sp, ch 3, 3 dc in the same space, dc in the next 2 stitches, ch 1, skip a stitch, dc in the next 2 stitches, 3 dc in the ch5sp, ch 3, 3 dc in the same space. Repeat until the end, close with a sl st in the 3rd ch from the beginning ch3.

Round 3: ch 4, dc3tog (in the dc, in the ch1sp and in the next dc), dc in the next 4 stitches, 3 dc in the ch3sp, ch 3, 3 dc in the same space, dc in the next 4 stitches, ch 1, dc3tog (in the dc, in the ch1sp and in the next dc) and so on. End with a sl st in the 3rd ch from the beginning ch 4.

Round 5: ch 1, sc in ch1sp, ch 3, sc in dc3tog, ch 3, sc in ch1sp, sc in every stitch across until the ch3sp (7 sc), ch 3, sc in the ch3sp, ch 3, sc in the same space, ch 3, sc in the next stitch, ch 3, skip a stitch, sc in the next, ch 3, skip a stitch, sc in the next. Repeat this until you reached the other ch3sp. There you ch 3, sc in the ch3 sp, ch 3, sc in the same space, ch 3 sc in the next stitch. Ch 3, skip a stitch, sc in the next. Repeat this to the other ch3 sp, ch 3, sc in the ch3sp, ch 3, sc in the same space, ch 3, sc in the next stitch. Sc in every stitch across (6 sc) until you are at the beginning of the round again. make a sl st in the first sc to close the round.

Your first triangle is done. Now make a bunch of them and then I show you how to make them into a birthday bunting.

Make a long chain, long enough to hang all of your triangles. My chain is about 75 inches, but you can make your chain longer or shorter. The space between the triangles gets bigger or smaller. Then bind off and weave your chain through the triangles like you see on the pictures below.

Distribute the triangles evenly over the cord, hang the bunting where you want and let’s party!
