Crochet Jar Cover
Create a nice crochet cover for a glass jar or vase with scrap yarn.
You need for this project a 3 light worsted yarn, I used some scrap yarn. The hook I used is a G/6, 4 mm.
Terms used/abbreviations
- st stitch
- ch chain
- sl st slip stitch
- sc single crochet
- hdc Half double crochet
- dc double crochet
Round 1: Make a chain, the number of chains must be divisible by 4 and fits tightly around the jar or vase. Better a little too tight than loose. Your work stretches a bit and then it looks nicer. Close this chain with a sl st in the first ch (make sure the chain isn’t twisted). You can also start with a double crochet foundation chain, then you can skip round 2 and jump right into round 3. Round 2: Chain 3 (this counts as your first dc), dc in every stitch around, close the round with a slip stitch in the 3rd chain of the chain 3 at the beginning of the round.
Round 3: Chain 3 (this counts as your first dc), 3 dc in the first dc, * skip 3 dc and make 4 dc in the next dc * repeat between the *. Close the round with a slip stitch in the 3rd chain from the beginning.
Round 4: Slip stitch in the 2nd dc of round 4 and between the 2nd and 3rd dc. Chain 3 (this counts as your first dc), make 3 dc in the same space, * 4 dc between every 2nd and 3rd dc of the previous round * repeat between * until the end of the round. Close the round with a slip stitch in the 3rd ch from the beginning.
Repeat round 4 until it is high enough to cover the jar or vase as far as you want.
For the border you have two options.
Option 1: Ch 2, 2 hdc before the first fan of the previous row, * sc between the 2nd and 3rd dc of the next fan, 5 hdc between the following fans *, repeat between *, 2 hdc in the last space between the fans (where you made ch 3 and 2 dc) and close the round with a slip stitch in the 2rd ch from the beginning.
Option 2: Ch 3 and make a dc in every stitch around and close the round with a sl st in the 3rd ch of the beginning ch 3
Tie off and weave in the ends. Put a candle in it or a bunch of flowers and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.
