A nice basket to store your crochet stuff in. It is an easy pattern with a single crochet bottom and a herringbone half double crochet side.

- 25 grams of grey number 2 cotton yarn to cover the inside, but you can use any number 2 yarn you like.
- 4 mm. G/6 hook for the outside and 3,5 mm. E/4 for the inside (use the hook size recommended on the yarn label)

Special stitches
Herringbone half double crochet: It is almost the same as the normal half double crochet, only in this case you yarn over, insert hook into the stitch and pull up a loop, you have 3 loops on your hook. Pull the first loop through the second, as if you make a slip stitch. Yarn over and pull through the last two loops on your hook.
Pattern
Bottom:
Round 1: Make a magic ring and place 8 sc in the ring. Pull the tail to close the ring. We don’t close the rounds for the bottom, so mark your first stitch with a stitch marker to recognize the start of your round (8).
Round 2: 2 sc in every sc (16). Replace the stitchmarker in the first sc of round 2.
Round 3: 2 sc in the first sc, 1 sc in the next (24). Repeat for the whole round.
Round 4: 2 sc in the first sc, 1 sc in the next 2 sc (32). Repeat for the whole round.
Round 5: 2 sc in the first sc, 1 sc in the next 3 sc (40). Repeat this the whole round.
Round 6: 2 sc in the first sc, 1 sc in the next 4 sc (48). Repeat for the whole round.
Round 7: 2 sc in the first sc, 1 sc in the next 5 sc (56). Repeat for the whole round.
Round 8: 2 sc in the first sc, 1 sc in the next 6 sc (64). Repeat for the whole round.
In every round you make an extra sc between the 2 sc in the same stitch. Repeat this until the bottom is the same size as the bottom of your can or, if you don’t want to put a can inside, until it is the size you want.
Make a slip stitch in the first sc to close your round.
Sides:
Round 1: hhdc blo in every stitch around. This gives your basket a nice edge. Close the round with a sl st in the first hhdc.
Switch to the smaller hook if your side turns out too big.
Round 2: ch 2, turn your work. Hhdc in every stitch around, close the round with a sl st in the first hhdc.
Repeat round 2 until your work is the same height as your can or as high as you want.
Bind off and weave in your end.
Inside of the basket
Switch to the grey yarn and the 3.5 mm crochet hook. Attach the grey yarn in the back loop of a stitch.
Round 1: Hdc blo in every stitch around. Close the round with a sl st in the first hdc.
Round 2: ch 2, hdc in every stitch around. Close with a sl st in the first hdc to close the round.
Repeat round 2 until the inside is the same height as the outside. Bind off and weave in the end.
Put in the can and fold the inside in the can or if you don’t use a can just fold the inside in.
Lid
Switch to the 4 mm. crochet hook. Make another round just as you’ve made for the bottom of your basket, but now make it one round bigger so it fits around the outside of the basket. Close the last round with a sl st in the first stitch of the last round.
Make a round of sc in every stitch around. Close the round with a sl st in the first sc of the round.
Ch 2, make a round of hhdc in every stitch around. Close with a sl st in the first hhdc.
Switch to the 3.5 mm. crochet hook and make a round of sc in every stitch around and close with a sl st in the first sc.
Bind off and weave in the end.
Handle
The last step is to make a handle.
Ch 16, hdc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in every stitch across. Or make a hdc foundation chain of 15 stitches. Want to learn how to make a half double crochet foundation chain, click on this link https://2loopz.com/half-double-crochet-foundation-chain/
Bind off and weave in the end.
Sew the handle to the top of the lid and that’s it.
