Today we make this fun, colorful basket. Other colors or a different color gradient are also possible, anything is possible. Do what you like.

Pattern

Bottom:

Round 1: I begin with the grey color. Start with a magic ring or a ch4 and close with a slip stitch. Ch1 and make 8 sc in the ring.

Round 2: Fold the beginning of your clothesline in around the circle you’ve just made and hold this tight between your fingers. We crochet around the clothesline but keep the end out so it doesn’t slip out. Insert your hook in the first sc from the previous round. Yarn over the hook, pull up a loop and finish your single crochet over the clothesline. Make 2 sc over the clothesline and in every sc (16). Place the stitchmarker in the first sc of round 2. You replace the stitch marker in the first stitch of every round.

Round 3: 2 sc in the first sc, 1 sc in the next (24). Repeat for the whole round.

Round 4: 2 sc in the first sc, 1 sc in the next 2 sc (32). Repeat for the whole round.

Round 5: 2 sc in the first sc, 1 sc in the next 3 sc (40). Repeat this the whole round.

Round 6: 2 sc in the first sc, 1 sc in the next 4 sc (48). Repeat for the whole round.

Round 7: 2 sc in the first sc, 1 sc in the next 5 sc (56). Repeat for the whole round.

Round 8: 2 sc in the first sc, 1 sc in the next 6 sc (64). Repeat for the whole round.

In every round you make an extra sc between the 2 sc in the same stitch. Repeat this until round 15. I changed color after round 11 to dark blue.

Work for the big basket 3 more rounds for the bottom. If you work the big basket then you change to the dark blue after round 15. Then cut your clothesline and make a slip stitch in the first sc to close your round.

Sides:

Round 1: sc blo in every stitch around. This gives your basket a nice edge.
Switch to the smaller hook.

Round 2: ch 1 and put a stitch marker in to mark your first stitch, sc in the first stitch, ch 1, skip a stitch and sc in the next stitch, ch 1, skip a stitch an sc in the next stitch and so on. Repeat this until you reach the end of the round. We are not closing the rounds, we jump right into the next round.

Round 3: We change color to blue and we ch 1, then we insert our hook in the skipped sc from the row below and make a sc (this is in between two sc and then a round below), ch 1, sc in the next skipped sc.

Repeat round 3 until your work measures about 4”.

I changed color every four rounds from blue to light blue, baby pink, pink and purple.

For the border we use the top color, in my case purple. We make the crab stitch to finish our project. The crab stitch is a reversed sc so instead of making your stitches in the same direction you’ve made all of your stitches, we go backwards. Insert your hook in the stitch before the first stitch and make a sc. Then make a sc in the stitch before this stitch and so on. Repeat this all the way around and make a sl st in the first stitch.

Bind off and weave in your ends.
