Pattern

We start the pattern with some measurements. Measure from under the breast (just above the smallest part of your waist) over your shoulder to the same spot on your back. Write this number down at number 1. Then measure from the shoulder to the neck, write this down at number 2.

Left side Body

Start with a chain for the length you wrote down at number 1, the chain must have the length you wrote down at number 1 and must be an even number.

Row 1: Yarn over, insert your hook in the 3rd chain from the hook and make a hdc, ch 1, hdc in the same stitch. We call this a V-stitch. Skip a stitch V-stitch in the next (hdc, ch 1, hdc), repeat this until you have two stitches left. Skip a stitch and make a hdc in the last stitch.

Row 2: ch 2, turn your work. V-stitch in every ch1sp across (that is right in the middle of every V-stitch). End with a hdc in the last stitch.

Repeat row 2 until your work is the width you wrote down at number 2.

Don’t bind off, we move on with another measurement.

Place the longest part over your shoulder and line it up at the front and back. You have one half of your top done (the left or the right side). See on your body where you want your neckline to start and mark that spot with a stitch marker. Make sure your stitch marker is in de the middle of a V-stitch. Feel with your fingers on the back and decide where you want the neckline on the back and mark that spot also with a stitch marker.

Right side Body

Row 1: ch 2, turn your work and make V-stitches in every V across until the stitch with the stitch marker. Then count your V-stitches in between the 2 stitch markers and multiply that by 2 plus 1 extra. Chain that amount of stitches. Make sure your chain isn’t twisted. Yarn over, insert in the other V-stitch with a stitch marker and make a V-stitch in the ch1sp. Repeat making V-stitches in every V-stitch across. End the row with a hdc.

Fit your work and see if the neckline is the way you want. If not then redo this row and make your neckline bigger or smaller.

Row 2: ch 2, turn your work. V-stitch in every ch1sp across until you are at the chain. Skip the first ch and make a V-stitch in the next, skip a chain, V-stitch in the next. Repeat to the other side of the chain, skip the last ch and make V-stitches in every V-stitch across. Hdc in the last stitch.

Row 3: ch 2, turn your work. V-stitch in every ch1sp across (that is right in the middle of every V-stitch). End with a hdc in the last stitch.

Repeat row 3 until this side is exactly the same width as the other side (also the width you wrote down at number 2).

Fit your work and see if you like what you see and decide where you want your armholes to start. Place a stitch marker on that spot. Turn your work inside out. Fold your work in half like you see in the picture and sew both sides until the stitch marker. You can also make sc or sl st in every stitch to close the sides. Turn your work right side out.

Bottom half

For the waist part I switched to a 3,5 mm crochet hook. This gives a slightly smaller waist, if you don’t want that then stick to the 4 mm hook. We are going to work in the rounds from now, without closing the rounds. We just keep working in the round. Put a stitch marker in the first stitch to show you where your round starts en where you have to stop when your dress is finished.

Make 2 hdc in every hdc, insert your hook in the hdc and not around to prevent you end up with big holes. Repeat this all the way around until you are at the stitch marker again. Don’t close your round but make a hdc in the first stitch and in every stitch around. Keep making hdc until your dress covers up your waist, then switch to the 4 mm crochet hook. Fit your work every now and then to see if it fits. If you need it a little bit bigger then switch to the 4 mm hook earlier. If you need it to be even bigger then make 2 hdc in the same stitch on every side to increase your work. Work hdc like you did before. Repeat until the dress is the length you want. If you want the bottom to be a little bit smaller at the end then switch to the 3.5 mm crochet hook about 3 rounds before the end or make hdc2tog on the sides to decrease. To finish off the dress you stop 2 stitches before the end of the round, make a sc in the next and a sl st in the next. Bind off and weave in your ends.

Your dress is ready to wear!!!
