TAPESTRY CROCHET ZIPPER POUCH

If you are looking for a nice bag to store your makeup, pens or other small items, then this pouch might be something for you. The bag is made in tapestry crochet which ensures a sturdy material. You can provide the bag with a lining, but that is optional. The pattern consists of single crochet only. The only tricky part is the pattern, but once you are on your way it will be easier.

Notes
- This pattern is written in US terms.
- The pattern is worked up top to bottom, from the zipper down.
- You don’t finish your rounds, you just keep going in a spiral.
- For this project you work in the back loops only and you make a single crochet with first a yarn over and finish the stitch with a yarn under.
- When you change color you do this in the middle of the sc before. When you have 2 loops of the first color on your hook, do the last yarn under in the next color and draw through all of the loops on the hook to finish the sc in the new color.
Pattern
Zipper Start with the 1.5 mm. crochet hook and the black yarn. Poke a hole with the hook in the beginning of the zipper.

Make a sl st and grab this with your hook and pull through the hole in the zipper. See picture on the left. Poke a new hole a little bit to the left (or to the right when you are lefthanded) grab the yarn and make a sl st and so on. Space the stitches evenly along the zipper. Make sure the stitches are loose and your zipper lays flat.

You need 46 stitches on each side (including the 2 ch at the front and end you have a total of 96 stitches) or the amount of stitches you need to cover your zipper (this must be divisible by 24).
When you’ve made sl st along the side turn the zipper around, ch 2, cross over to the other side, poke a hole and make a sl st. See picture 3. Then work sl st along the other side of the zipper. When you are at the end of the zipper then ch 2, cross over to the other side, (see picture) insert in the first stitch and make a sl st to close the round.
Leave the yarn attached. Crochet directly on zipper
The pattern is in multiples of 24. I have a total of 5 times 24 stitches after the first round. Follow the video tutorial to see how I made the extra stitches around the zipper chains. I made 2 sc in 1 stitch every 4 stitches, so in every 4th stitch you make 2 sc in 1 stitch to increase your stitches. We attach the other 2 colors by placing them on the work and work over your tail ends to cover them in your work.
Ch 1 in black.
Work over the colors you don’t use every time you make a stitch. Follow the chart you see below. We work from right to left and from bottom to top, every box is a stitch.
The first 2 rounds I will explain and after that I’m sure you can go on working with the chart.
Round 1: (You see the bottom row of the chart, this is round 1)
Make a sc (work in the back loops only) in the 1st stitch in black. Don’t finish this stitch but switch to white and finish this stitch in white.
Sc in the next stitch, finish this stitch in pink.
Sc in the next stitch, sc in the next stitch finish this stitch in white.
Sc in the next stitch, don’t finish the stitch but change to black and finish in that color.
The next 2 stitches are in black, finish the last of those 2 in white.
Sc in the next, finish the stitch in pink.
Sc in the next 3 stitches, finish the last stitch in white.
Sc in the next stitch, don’t finish the stitch but change to black and finish in that color.
The next 2 stitches are in black, finish the last of those 2 in white.
Sc in the next stitch, finish this stitch in pink.
Sc in the next 2 stitches finish the last stitch in white.
Sc in the next stitch, finish the stitch in black.
Sc in the next 2 stitches, finish the last stitch in white.
Sc in the next stitch, finish the stitch in pink.
Sc in the next stitch, finish the stitch in white.
Sc in the next stitch, finish the stitch in black.
Sc in the next stitch.
You now are at the end of the chart, if you have stitches left you start at the beginning of the chart again until you have no stitches left. If you have any stitches left then you finish the last stitch with the first color of the row, in this case black, and follow the chart of row 1 until you run out of stitches. Don’t finish the last stitch of the round but see in the chart which color starts in round 2, in this case it is black so finish the stitch in black.
Don’t close the rounds but work directly in the first stitch of the previous round. Mark the first stitch with a stitch marker so you know where to start a new round.
Round 2: (You see the 2nd row of the chart, this is round 2)
Make a sc in the 1st stitch in black. Don’t finish the last stitch but switch to white and finish this stitch in white.
Sc in the next 2 stitches, finish this stitch in pink.
Sc in the next stitch, finish this stitch in white.
Sc in the next 2 stitches, don’t finish the last stitch but change to black and finish in that color.
Sc in the next stitch, finish this stitch in white.
Sc in the next 2 stitches, don’t finish the last stitch but change to pink and finish in that color.
Repeat row 2 in the chart until the end of the round. Don’t finish the last stitch but see in the chart which color starts in round 3, in this case it is pink so finish the stitch in light pink.
Follow the chart below until the work is the height you need. I worked the entire chart about 1.5 times to reach the height of 20 cm. or 8”.

If the bag is the height you need then it is time to cut your yarn and bind off and weave in the ends.
Turn your work inside out and close the bottom with sl st. Cut your yarn, bind off and weave in your ends. Turn your bag right side out and you are ready to put your stuff in.
Have fun crocheting!
