Vase or Jar Cover

Today I make a cover for a vase or a jar to make it just a bit more beautiful. You can use any size you want, only then you need more or less yarn than me. It is a nice project to get rid of your scrap yarns.

You can use any scrap yarn you have in your stash. I use a nr. 3 cotton yarn in light grey and a 4 mm crochet hook. Just pick the hook size recommended on the yarn label to start with. Of course you need a glass vase or jar, mine has a diameter of about 3 inches but you can use any size you want.

Round 1: Make a chain, the number of chains must be divisible by 6 and fits tightly around the jar or vase. Better a little too tight than loose. Your work stretches a bit and then it looks nicer. Close this chain with a slip stitch (make sure the chain isn’t twisted).
A little tip: if your chain is just a bit too loose try a hook half a size smaller and if your chain is just a little too tight take a half size bigger. This way you don’t have to make five chains more or less and your work just becomes a bit looser or tighter.
Round 2: Chain 3 (this counts as your first dc), skip 2 chains and make 5 dc in the next chain. Skip 2 chains make 1 dc in the next chain, skip 2 chains, 5 dc in the next chain. Repeat this all the way around. Close the round with a slip stitch in the third chain of the chain 3 at the beginning of the round.
Round 3: chain 3 (this counts as your first dc), make 2 dc in the first stitch. Skip 2 dc and make 1 dc in the next dc, in the middle of the 5, skip 2 dc and 5 dc in the next dc, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in the middle of the 5. Make 5 dc on top of the single dc. Repeat this all the way around. Close the round with a slip stitch in the third chain of the chain 3 at the beginning of the round.
Round 4: Chain 3 (this counts as your first dc), 5 dc in the dc, 1 dc in the middle of the 5, 5 dc in the single dc. Repeat until the end. Close the round with a slip stitch in the 3rd chain from the beginning.
Repeat rounds 3 and 4 until your work is the desired height.
Tie off your yarn and weave in the ends. Put it around your vase or jar and fill it up with your favorite flowers.
